Information about Costa Calma
Costa Calma is the second largest holiday resort in the south of Fuerteventura. One attraction of Costa Calma is the beautiful sandy beach, which is very suitable for families with children as it slopes gently into the sea. The place is quieter than Jandía or Corralejo, but still has many apartments, holiday homes and hotels. Costa Calma is a popular place for Germans. You only meet relatively few other nationalities.
"Costa Calma" means "quiet coast" and is called that because of the offshore winds and the resulting low waves.
Costa Calma is located at the northern end of the Jandía peninsula. (Please note that the tourist center at Morro Jable is also called Jandía - but actually the entire southern peninsula of Fuerteventura is called "Jandía".) Costa Calma is located on an isthmus; it is just 4 km as the crow flies to the west coast and thus to the other side of the island.
The wind turbines of the wind farm at Costa Calma are striking. Because of the isthmus, constant wind is guaranteed here all year round.
When you drive to Costa Calma, the large forest of palm trees and pine trees immediately catches your eye on the left and right of the road. Especially because such a green oasis is rare on Fuerteventura outside of hotels and holiday apartments. The main road runs right through this palm forest and thus keeps a lot of noise away from the rest of the town. The forest divides the town into two halves. On some street signs, Costa Calma is also described under its old name "Cañada del Río".
The town of Costa Calma consists of holiday homes, apartments, hotels, shopping centers and restaurants and is therefore a pure holiday settlement that was built from around 1970 onwards. There is no historic town center here. You can hardly even recognize a real center - the square opposite the Hotel Taro Beach has emerged as the "small center".
