Information about Jandía / Morro Jable
Morro Jable (= the original fishing village) and Jandía (= the "new" place) are among the largest tourist centers on Fuerteventura. Since Jandía merges seamlessly into Morro Jable, the two places are often referred to together as "Jandía" in travel guides or magazines. A spacious, fine, light sandy beach (behind which there are protected salt marshes) is the attraction. Rustic restaurants and a wide range of shopping opportunities are particularly plentiful in Morro Jable. Jandía/Morro Jable is particularly popular with German holidaymakers. But guests from France and the Netherlands are also increasingly common.
Information about Jandía/Morro Jable
Jandía and Morro Jable are, as already described above, among the largest tourist resorts on Fuerteventura. They belong to the municipality of Pajara and are located on the southern tip of the island at the foot of a mountain range with the highest mountain on the island, the "Pico de la Zarza" (807 m high). You can also climb this and then enjoy a breathtaking view of the long west coast beach of Cofete. The mountain range keeps the cold winds and clouds away and ensures that Jandía/Morro Jable is the area with the sunniest and warmest temperatures on the island.
The entire southern peninsula of Fuerteventura is actually called "Jandía". However, the "old" town of Morro Jable and the new, hotel-based town of "Jandía" are now referred to together as "Jandía". The two towns merge into one another, so that as a tourist you don't notice where Jandía ends or where Morro Jable begins. The good thing about it is that you can vacation in a young, new town, and at the same time you still have something old and original. A good mix!
Beach of Jandía/Morro Jable
Jandía has one of the most beautiful and extensive beaches on Fuerteventura. The beach is narrowest at Morro Jable and gets wider the closer you get to the lighthouse towards Jandia.
The section of beach at the lighthouse (in the tourist center of Jandía) is also called "Playa de Matorral" and is ideal for families with children. Fine, light sand, clean and gently sloping into the sea. Between the road and the beach are salt marshes that are protected (no building allowed). There is never a particularly tight spot for sun worshippers on any section of the beach in Jandía/Morro Jable.
