Information about Corralejo
Corralejo is Fuerteventura's second largest tourist resort after Jandia/Morro Jable and is located in the far north of the island. Corralejo is a lively town – but its main attraction is the protected dune area "El Jable" at the southern end of Corralejo.
Corralejo is located in the north of Fuerteventura and is approximately 45 km from the airport.
The former small fishing village has developed into the largest tourist resort in the north and the second largest on all of Fuerteventura. Corralejo belongs to the municipality of La Oliva and is particularly popular with English tourists. This is reflected in the numerous English pubs and bars.
Corralejo has a charming historic town center. The proximity to the harbor and the narrow streets give the town a certain charm despite its size. The view of the small neighboring island of Los Lobos also contributes to this.
The town is lively. The main street, with its numerous shops, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs, is the heart of the town. During the day, most of the action takes place on the beach and along the promenade.
There's always something going on at the harbor, where fishing boats, yachts, and large ferries dock. Many people use the harbor as a starting point for excursions to Lanzarote or Los Lobos.
Corralejo offers plenty for adventurous guests: boat trips, surfing, catamaran excursions, mountain biking, tennis, deep-sea fishing, jet skiing, and more. Corralejo's nightlife is hard to beat among all the other towns on Fuerteventura.
Corralejo has many hotels, bungalow complexes, and apartments. The construction boom continues. The further south you go from the harbor and the old town, the less appealing Corralejo becomes. In the south of Corralejo, one large hotel follows another. The hotels and apartments are mostly low-rise (in terms of the number of floors). The two RIU hotels built directly in the dunes are exceptions. These two hotels are considered architectural eyesores on Fuerteventura. They were built right in the middle of the dunes and are very tall.
The aforementioned dune area south of Corralejo is called "El Jable" and has been a nature reserve since 1982. The main road, FV1, runs through the dunes to Corralejo. Walking from your accommodation in Corralejo to the dunes is difficult, as it can be between 3 and 5 kilometers, depending on the location of your accommodation.
The beach in Corralejo is divided into two main sections.
There are several small coves in Corralejo itself. The largest of these is approximately 200 meters wide. These beaches are popular with both tourists and locals. The sand is light and fine. Almost all the coves offer a beautiful view of the harbor and Los Lobos. Water sports are available, as well as beach bars and restaurants for a quick bite. Shopping, dining, and leisure activities abound.
Few places on Fuerteventura offer such a wealth of restaurants, bars, shops, shopping centers, and nightclubs as Corralejo.
Here you'll find both international restaurants and small, romantic seafood restaurants along the promenade.
The main street is the heart of the action. Most of the shops and several car rental agencies are located there.
