Information about Tindaya
The village of Tindaya lies seven kilometers southwest of La Oliva, at the foot of the mountain of the same name. From Puerto del Rosario, take the FV-10 past Tetir towards the west coast.
The small village of Tindaya, with its 600 inhabitants, lies at the foot of the mountain of the same name. The houses in the village are scattered among fields and bushes. The inhabitants of Tindaya revere their mountain as a "sacred mountain" because enigmatic rock carvings were discovered near the summit in 1978. These symbols are said to indicate that the original inhabitants of the Canary Islands descended from Berbers of Northwest Africa. Today, climbing the mountain is only permitted with a permit. Bars and restaurants are located in the village.
Bus/Taxi
There is a bus stop in Tindaya. Bus schedules can be found in island magazines, or you can ask the bus driver.
History
The inhabitants of Tindaya once lived solely from growing tomatoes and making cheese. Many magical and religious ceremonies were held here in the past to honor the tribal chiefs.
